The Whiskey Gentry
with Special Guest: The Apostles of Bluegrass
Paste Magazine was dead-on when they called The Whiskey Gentry a "toe-tapping, steamrolling kind of band, its fingers picking deep into fields of bluegrass, feet stomping in line with a punk-inspired kick drum." Formed in 2009 by husband and wife duo Lauren Staley and Jason Morrow, The Whiskey Gentry is a group of seasoned veterans—to put things mildly, some of the finest pickers and musicians the Southeast has to offer. A recent finalist in the Chris Austin Songwriting Competition held at MerleFest, Staley's natural gifts with words and her powerful lead vocal abilities complement the band's edgy interpretation of an otherwise traditional sound. All of this, coupled with a commanding and high-energy live performance, sets the bar for the way today's country music ought to sound—honest, tight, daring, and void of pretension

The Apostles of Bluegrass led by Johnny Roquemore, Creative Loafing Magazine critics’ choice "Best Local Singer/Songwriter” in Atlanta, this trio has played all over the South. From the highest-minded church revivals to the lowest honky tonk dives, on television and radio the hard driving bluegrass and humorous original songs consistently amuse their audiences. Georgia native Johnny Roquemore returned from Malibu, California after 30 years of hobnobbing with the bigwigs of music. Dubbed the "Minstrel of Malibu” this singer-songwriter has come home to live on the family farm in Mansfield.
Playing banjo, mandolin and harmonica, John Nipper is a native to Newton County Ga. He gave up bicycle motocross to save his fingers for music. Originally from the Chicago area, Dave Ross plays the big blue upright bass and the Dobro. Sadly he received a banjo for his eleventh birthday and hasn’t been the same since. Straining the limits of bluegrass the Apostles repertoire contains good music and intelligent composition and therefore may not be suitable for today’s listener.
